Everton tipped to land '£9m' signing on '£58,000-a-week' after Rodriguez news - pundit
Everton could sign a player for “£9million” in January as they look set to offload James Rodriguez, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed the savings made on Rodriguez’s wages could be reinvested into Rafael Benitez’s playing squad.
Fabrizio Romano reported today (September 22) the Colombian’s move to Qatari side Al Rayyan is “confirmed”.
Football Insider revealed on September 12 Rodriguez did not leave Everton in January because nobody could match his astonishing £250,000-a-week wage demands.
He was handed a two-year deal by the Goodison club last summer after leaving Real Madrid.
However, the 30-year-old has not even featured in a matchday squad under Benitez after being a favourite of Carlo Ancelotti.

Asked whether Rodriguez’s wages could be reinvested into the squad, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “100 per cent.
“If you work out those wages, what you save over a year. That will cost the club around £1million a month and £12million a year on wages.
“That’s enough to buy a player for around £9million and give him £3million in wages.
“It frees up some cash for Benitez, definitely. They didn’t spend a lot at all over the summer.”
As quoted by the Independent earlier this month (September 10), Benitez claimed financial fair play rules were “killing” Everton during the transfer window.
The Blues only added Demarai Gray for a fee while Andros Townsend, Asmir Begovic and Salomon Rondon moved on free transfers.
