Everton and Leicester City could make approaches to sign Norwich City ace James Maddison this week, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror claims that the Toffees and their Premier League rivals could be in direct competition to land the Championship attacker, while play-off winners Fulham are also keen.
It is understood that they are leading the chase for the £25million-rated playmaker, who usually plays in an advanced midfield role and scored 15 goals in 49 appearances for Norwich in the 2017/18 season.
The report details Norwich will “reluctantly” cash in on their talisman because their parachute payments have now dropped.
Football Insider verdict:
Everton should waste no time in trying to complete their first marquee signing of the summer by beating Leicester to the signature of Maddison. The English creator has enjoyed a stunning campaign with Norwich and looks destined to play at the top level for a long period of time. He has shown he is a brilliant goalscorer with some long-range efforts to his name, while he also chipped in with 11 assists. Everton already have several talented English players in their squad going into next season and Maddison would arguably be the best of the bunch if he joined. However, the Toffees need to move quickly to try beat Leicester, while the report also mentions that Manchester City and Tottenham could still yet follow up initial interest. The in-demand playmaker looks likely to be playing in the Premier League next year and Goodison Park seems like a brilliant platform for him to develop.
In other Everton news, they must abandon their £40m pursuit and turn their attention to a Championship flyer.
