Kieran Maguire: Everton likely in ‘talks’ to strike multiple deals as new funds secured

Everton are likely “talking to brands” to seal multiple new sponsorship deals in order to fund their future transfer market activity.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the current financial problems faced by the Toffees.

A huge chunk of the club’s annual sponsorship revenue was lost in March when benefactor Alisher Usmanov, who has close ties to Vladimir Putin, saw his assets seized by the UK Government in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Everton have since announced a club-record front-of-shirt deal with cryptocurrency-based betting brand Stake.com among several other sponsorship arrangements.

The Merseysiders revealed on 25 August that formalwear company Marc Darcy had become the latest brand to join their portfolio of sponsors.

Everton recorded a negative net spend of approximately £25million in the summer window despite their current Financial Fair Play concerns.

Maguire forecasts that the funds from deals like the one with Marc Darcy will be reinvested in recruitment and retention.

“Everton will be looking to broaden their sponsor base,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“We know what has happened with respect to Alisher Usmanov, who is no longer able to provide indirect funding for the club through sponsorship payments.

“I think the club will be talking to brands who will be able to provide these funds.

That will then allow the club to go into the transfer market and the wage market in order to recruit and retain talent.”
