Everton told to appoint Ferguson full-time after major update in last 24 hours – pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Everton should give Duncan Ferguson “until the end of the season” in the hot seat.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Toffees would have ample time to install a “plan” and “philosophy” at the club with the 50-year-old at the helm.
Everton confirmed on Tuesday (18 January) that Ferguson will once again take caretaker charge of the side for the “upcoming games”.
According to the Telegraph (20 January), Fabio Cannavaro has joined Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard on the shortlist of options being considered for the vacancy at Goodison Park after the Italian icon was interviewed by club chiefs.
Former Toffees striker Ferguson previously had a spell in caretaker charge in December 2019.
Hutton suggested he could reprise his role and help “galvanise” a struggling Everton side.
“Me personally, I would give it to Ferguson until the end of the season,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“I know when he was in interim charge last time, he did really well. He galvanised that Everton side – the squad, fans and the club really bought into it.
“I would give it to him because they need to make a plan and really determine what direction they want the club to go in.
“First they need to do that, and then they can get in a director of football and a manager who share that philosophy.
“That’s the route they need to go down.”

During his first spell in charge, the Scot took five points from league games against Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
