Everton told to swoop for 'brilliant' Maupay as £17m exit all but done - pundit

Everton should replace the exit-bound Moise Kean with experienced Premier League hitman Neal Maupay.

So says ex-Premier League forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old Brighton striker.

Sky Sports reported on 26 August that the Toffees are interested in signing the Maupay but, because of FFP, will have to sell before they can buy.

Sky Sports also report that Kean is close to re-signing for Juventus for £17m just two years after swapping Turin for Merseyside.

Maupay has two years remaining on his contract at the Amex, while Kean has three years left to run on his Everton deal.

And Whelan insists that Maupay would be the ideal replacement for the 21-year-old Italian centre-forward.

He told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “They are going to get more consistency and a better player out of Maupay, in my view.

“It is the toughest league in the world and we know that it’s not at all easy to come and play up front here.

But he is a player who knows the Premier League and we’ve seen him do it at Brighton.

“He’s got great movement and fantastic finishing ability. That could possibly be a really brilliant fit for Everton.

Kean spent last season on loan at Paris Saint-Germain where he scored 17 goals in 41 appearances.

Maupay meanwhile scored eight times in 36 Brighton appearances and has already netted twice in 2021-22.

In other news, pundit claims rising star Nathan Patterson could join Everton on loan from Rangers after latest update.
