Everton top source can’t believe Kyle Walker may be joining right now

Everton will lose Ashley Young at the end of his contract this month but could replace him with another veteran full-back in Kyle Walker.

The Guardian reported on Monday (16 June) that Walker, 35, has emerged as an option for David Moyes’ side – while recent reports have suggested a deal has now been agreed.

He is surplus to requirements at Man City and spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan with AC Milan.

Walker remains part of the England set-up under Thomas Tuchel but has faced criticism for his recent international performances.

Everton‘s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted he has a “big question mark” about a deal for the ex-Tottenham man.

‘Walker to Everton deal is not yet advanced’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed the deal is likely not as advanced as is being reported.

Walker has amassed bundles of experience, playing 410 times in the Premier League and winning the English top flight six times.

Wyness suggested the Sheffield-born star, who turned 35 last month, may be over the hill.

When asked about Walker’s potential arrival, he told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It did bring a smile to my face.

“Ashley Young, Seamus Coleman and now Kyle Walker at right-back – I think the biggest concern would be getting the heating allowance for pensioners in that position.

“I don’t know if this will go through.

“At 35, he may still be fit to a degree – and you can be at that age – but I think he’ll want to go abroad.

“I don’t think it’s quite as advanced as a lot of the media are saying right now.

“I’ve got a big question mark about Walker coming in this summer. He almost joined back in 2009, so there may be some history.”

Everton could land Longstaff for £10m

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (15 June) that Everton have been told Newcastle will accept £10million offers for Sean Longstaff.

Longstaff is set to enter the final year of his contract at St James’ Park, with his long-term future now regarded as “definitely” away from Newcastle.

Everton and Leeds United are both keen on the midfielder, 27, after his long spell with boyhood club Newcastle.
