Everton top source can’t believe new Jarrad Branthwaite twist – ‘it makes no sense’
Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with Man United, Tottenham and Real Madrid in recent weeks after his impressive form for Everton.
David Moyes’ side are planning contract talks with the centre-back, who is currently out of contract in June 2027, as they attempt to tie him down to a long-term deal.
But in a new twist, Sky Sports reported on 24 March the defender is expected to consider his Everton future after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad last month.
Branthwaite was instead called up to the Under-21’s squad despite making his senior Three Lions debut last year (2024).
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has shared his reaction to the news from Sky Sports.
Sky Sports’ Branthwaite claim ‘makes no sense’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has insisted it would make “no sense” for Branthwaite to move away with his England career in mind.
Jordan Pickford has been with Everton since 2017 and has won 68 caps as the first-choice goalkeeper for three different managers.
Wyness insisted playing for the Toffees may even be seen as a positive next season.

When asked if Branthwaite may have to move away from Everton to secure an England place, he told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Absolutely not.
“There’s a whole history of Everton players who have played for England – I don’t believe that for a second.
“It makes no sense, I don’t know why the journalists have run with that line.
“I think Tuchel will have seen him, but wanted to give him a proper run in the Under-21’s. Taking in Dan Burn at his age isn’t a long-term solution; Tuchel will know that.
“He has had to do a bit of politicking for these first games.
“Going forward, Branthwaite will have a big role for England – and playing for Everton won’t have any impact at all.
“In fact, it could even be a positive next season.”

Everton must pay £30m to land Doak
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed that Liverpool will demand a £30million fee from Everton if they are to sell Ben Doak to their arch-rivals this summer.
David Moyes is an admirer of Doak and has sent scouts to watch the wideman during his loan spell at Middlesbrough this season.
Sources have told Football Insider that Bournemouth are also keen on the teenage winger heading into the summer window, while Crystal Palace saw a £15million bid rejected in January.
