Everton top source ‘expects Calvert-Lewin to sign deal very soon’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is out of contract at Everton in a matter of days – potentially ending his nine-year association with the club.

The 28-year-old has rejected multiple renewal offers on Merseyside as he looks set to walk away on a free transfer.

Calvert-Lewin scored just three league goals in the 2024-25 campaign – another season hit by injury for the England international, who last played for the Three Lions in 2021.

Newcastle have previously been linked with the forward – as have clubs in Italy’s Serie A.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on where Calvert-Lewin could end up.

Calvert-Lewin tipped to join Italian club this summer

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he “expects Calvert-Lewin to go overseas on a free transfer”.

The forward has made 239 Premier League appearances since joining Everton from Sheffield United in 2016 – scoring 57 goals in the top flight.

Wyness insisted a move for Italy could be advantageous from a fitness point of view for Calvert-Lewin.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I do think a fit Calvert-Lewin would do very well.

“But there’s a lot of talk of overseas moves and I think Italy is a league in which he would do extremely well.

“I don’t think it would be too physically onerous for him, compared to the Premier League.

“Serie A would suit his style of play, as well.

“I expect him to go overseas on a free. It’s a loss for Everton, but that’s the way it goes.

“You either tie these players down or they decide there is a better option.

“I think he’ll be leaving very soon.”

Burnley respond to Everton’s defender approach

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 12 June that Burnley are confident Maxime Esteve’s £50million price tag will fend off Premier League interest.

Everton and Crystal Palace are keen on the 23-year-old after his exploits for Scott Parker’s side in the 2024-25 campaign.

Bayern Munich are also keen with head coach Vincent Kompany previously managing Esteve at Turf Moor.
