Everton top source shares Calvert-Lewin update – ‘my own information is…’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to end his nine-year association with Everton this month as he closes in on a free transfer exit.

Football Insider revealed last week (6 June) that Everton are resigned to losing Calvert-Lewin at the end of June after he rejected multiple new contract offers.

Everton will now turn to a long list of new striker targets after long-running talks with the England international.

Calvert-Lewin scored just three league goals in the 2024-25 campaign, taking his Premier League tally to 57 in 239 appearances.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed what he has heard from well placed sources on the striker’s future.

Everton offer Calvert-Lewin ‘bonus-related’ deal, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Calvert-Lewin is unsatisfied with a “bonus-related” contract offer made to him by Everton.

Injuries have been a concern for the forward, who once again missed a big chunk of the season on the treatment table in the 2024-25 campaign.

Wyness also suggested online abuse of Calvert-Lewin’s wife will have played a big part in his imminent decision to leave the club.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “There has been an issue over his wife getting some bad abuse online.

“Any link he may have felt to Everton may have been eroded over that, although I’m sure he’s big enough to get over it.

“It’s unsettling.

“I think it may have tipped him towards finding pastures new this summer.

“There are also rumours he hasn’t been offered the kind of deal he was looking for.

“My own information is that he isn’t going to get the right deal – it would be very bonus-related and much lower in terms of basic salary.”

Everton frontrunners in Grealish race

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (11 June) that Everton and Newcastle United are leading the race to sign Man City star Jack Grealish this summer.

Sources say a loan deal, with City covering a portion of the winger’s wages, is the “most likely” outcome.

The 29-year-old wants to leave Man City in the off-season after being excluded from their Club World Cup squad.
