Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu has opened talks with Dutch giants Ajax, according to a report.

The Mirror claim that Ajax are now trying to sign the highly-rated 22-year-old after the Toffees knocked back AC Milan’s loan offer.

Given the latest twist, it could develop into a three-horse race for Deulofeu as Premier League side Middlesbrough have also been linked with trying to secure race his signature.

Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claimed last Friday that Boro could be lining up an offer for the Spaniard as his future at Goodison Park takes another twist.

However, as quoted by the Mirror, Millan chief executive Adriano Galliani is determined to get his man as he stated that,  “Everton knows we can do loans or loans with right of redemption”.

This term, Deulofeu has seen his game time reduced as he has only played 13 matches in all competitions and has not made the matchday squad for the last three Premier League games.

According to the Daily Star, Deulofeu is earning £48,000-a-week with his current club.

Football Insider verdict:

A player of Gerard Deulofeu’s calibre should be playing regular football and he won’t be getting that under current manager Ronald Koeman. Understandably, the highly-rated attacker has a number of European clubs chasing his signature but the Spaniard’s best move would be to a side that will provide him regular football. At this moment in time, the former Barcelona man needs to show that he is capable of delivering the goods on a regular basis. He will only do that by playing week in week out and developing his talent. Both Ajax and AC Milan are brilliant destinations to develop his football, as well as Middlesbrough which would mean he would be under the microscope of a large Premier League audience.
