Everton turn attention to agreeing Scott McTominay deal – sources

Everton are considering a move to sign Scott McTominay from Man United before 31 August, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Sean Dyche is a big fan of the Scotland international and could make a late move to secure his signature.

However, sources say the finances involved in a permanent deal could derail Everton’s attempts.

McTominay’s future at Old Trafford is up in the air amid talk that United will need to cash in on him to fund their own transfer plans.

Football Insider revealed that Erik ten Hag’s side are closing in on a loan move to sign PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte but would need to raise funds to land a permanent deal.

Multiple Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on the 28-year-old’s situation with a view to exploring a deal before the transfer window closes next week.

Napoli are also considering a surprise swoop for McTominay after losing Jens Cajuste to Ipswich.

Everton line up Scott McTominay swoop after Man United transfer twist

Dyche and the recruitment team at Goodison Park remain desperate to bring in a new midfielder before 31 August after losing Amadou Onana to Aston Villa.

The club were forced into the £50million sale of Onana to help balance the books and swerve another punishment for PSR-related issues.

However, the move has left them light in midfield, forcing the club into the market with a central player now their priority before 31 August.

After missing out on moves to sign Cajuste and Kalvin Phillips after Ipswich pipped them to both deals, the Toffees have been forced to reconsider their options.

McTominay’s arrival would represent a statement signing for the Toffees if they can beat off rival interest in his signature.

Dyche is known to be keen on bolstering his team with physically imposing and Premier League-proven players – and the Scotland international ticks both boxes.

His versatility is also seen as a boost by the recruitment team, having featured throughout the core of the team at both Man United and Scotland, playing as a centre-back, defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, and even as a striker.
