Kieran Maguire: Everton board ‘under pressure’ amid critical Tuesday statement

Everton are “exemplary” in terms of fan engagement – that means they are “under pressure” to deliver on their latest boardroom promise.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about supporter representation at board level at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have held talks with supporter groups over creating a fan advisory board, as confirmed in a statement on Tuesday (14 December).

They say they are “committed” to giving fans a say on club constitutional and heritage matters through establishing a fan-led committee in 2022.

Several top-flight clubs, including cross-city rivals Liverpool, have taken steps towards greater fan influence in the boardroom in recent months.

Everton market themselves as the ‘people’s club’ and as such, according to Maguire, will be expected to come good on their promise.

He told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams: “I think there is more pressure on the Everton board to deliver than most.

“They are very much a local club, rooted in their community. I think this would be a fantastic complementary approach from the club.

“If you look at the work done by organisations like Everton in the Community, they are exemplary as far as engagement is concerned.

“I think the fan advisor board would aid investment in the local community and ensure that voices are heard among their loyal fanbase.”

On the pitch, the Toffees have won just one of their last 11 matches.

They were due to play Leicester City this weekend but that clash was postponed due to Covid-related concerns.
