Everton victims of ‘aggressive’ Premier League & ‘it’s horrible’ – Wyness
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has hit out at the Premier League for being too “aggressive” in their suggested punishments for member clubs.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has claimed that treatment of clubs that have breached regulations has been “horrible”.
Everton are currently in the process of appealing their second points deduction after their PSR breach resulted in a two-point penalty.
However, Football Insider revealed that the Merseyside club will have to prepare for a third hearing this summer after the independent commission ruled that there is still an ongoing dispute over stadium costs.
The third hearing is related to interest fees connected to the construction of Bramley Moore Dock – the Premier League have accused Everton of discounting too much of the interest from their PSR calculations.
Premier League slammed for ‘aggressive’ points deduction approach
Wyness told Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast that a “black and white decision” must be made over the stadium costs this summer.
“I hope that there will be a clear black and white decision that Everton’s stadium interest fees were allowable expenses,” he said.
“It would finally mean that one club gets a clear victory and the Premier League is put back in its box.
“The aggression from the Premier League in trying to assess these points deductions is beyond anything I could ever understand.

“They have really been adversarial rather than trying to help their member clubs.
“We’re in a whole different territory and it’s horrible seeing this with the Premier League acting so aggressively to try and catch clubs out.“
