‘Everton well placed to complete Ben Doak signing’ after £30m reveal

Everton have not signed a player directly from Liverpool since the 1992 capture of Gary Ablett from their Merseyside rivals.

That could change this summer with young winger Ben Doak, 19, on the target list for David Moyes and his transfer team.

Football Insider revealed in April that Everton could land Doak for a fee of £30million this summer.

He spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan with Middlesbrough in the Championship under now-sacked boss Michael Carrick.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Moyes would be the “perfect manager” to further Doak’s development.

Liverpool and Everton can do deal for Doak, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed he expects Liverpool and Everton to be “professional” and overcome their rivalry to do a deal.

Doak joined Liverpool from Celtic in 2022 and has made just 10 senior appearances for the Reds.

Wyness claimed the teenager and his advisors are unlikely to see a future for him at Anfield.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Very few players have gone across the park from Liverpool to Everton.

“I actually did a cross-park transfer when I was at Everton for Gary Ablett, a youth coach, and even that was interesting.

“He had played for both clubs as well.

“These days, although it’s difficult for the players – Doak is not really established at Liverpool, he’s been out on loan.

“He’s not really synonymous with Liverpool.

“I think this deal would be easier. He’s had good form for Scotland, and Moyes is the Scottish connection there.

“I think Doak and his advisors won’t believe he will get the time at Liverpool he deserves.

“Moyes would promise him more game time, and he’d be the perfect manager for Doak.

“For all parties, it makes sense. Everyone’s professional enough to get over the rivalry situation.”

Doak has made just 10 senior appearances for Liverpool.

‘Everton keen on Sunderland star man’

Meanwhile, Everton are reportedly interested a deal to sign Sunderland’s talented right-back Trai Hume this summer.

The Northern Ireland international joined the recently-promoted Black Cats in 2022 from Linfield and has gone on to make 132 appearances for the club.

Sky Sports claim (2 June) Wolves, Everton and a number of La Liga clubs are interested in Hume despite Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League.
