Everton work on late defender signing – sources
Everton boss Sean Dyche is keen to add full-back cover in the final hours on transfer deadline day, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Toffees will be scouring the loan market for potential solutions on the final day of the window.
It is believed that Everton will also use their connections with Lyon through incoming owner John Textor to explore possible deals.
Kieran Trippier has been linked with a potential move to Merseyside in recent weeks but time is running out to complete a last-gasp move.
The Toffees were forced to field 19-year-old Roman Dixon in their 4-0 Premier League loss against Tottenham last week (24 August).
Dixon’s debut came amid injuries to Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman, while Ashley Young was suspended after his opening-day dismissal.
Everton keen to land last-gasp full-back deal
Sources say Dyche is keen to improve his options on both sides of his defence after a chastening start to the 2024-25 campaign but will be working with a meagre budget on deadline day.
Vitaliy Mykolenko and Young are the left-back options at Goodison Park, but the Ukraine international has had a mixed injury record since joining the club two years ago and his position is an area of concern.

Everton are pointless after two Premier League games but progressed to the third round of the League Cup with a 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday (27 August).
Dyche’s side are next in action against Bournemouth on Saturday (31 August).
