Everton working on two January signings ‘from what I’m hearing’ – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed the Merseysiders will be in for a “right-back and a winger” this month.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed sporting director Kevin Thelwell will want “to impress the Friedkins” after the takeover was completed last month.

Everton boss Sean Dyche refused to be drawn on the club’s transfer plans this month when asked in the wake of the 2-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest (30 December).

As per the Liverpool Echo, he told reporters: “I don’t know about the January situation. I know you’ll keep asking me but it depends on PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules).”

The Friedkin Group have completed their takeover at Goodison but Everton are still under pressure to comply with PSR after getting two points deductions last season.

Dyche’s side are 16th in the Premier League table and sit two points above the drop zone.

Everton to move for ‘right-back and winger’ this month, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think it’s pretty unfair to be asking Sean about accounting procedures and the club’s loans the day after the takeover happens.

“He’s a football manager, not the CFO, and he handled the question well.

“I expect there to be some room to strengthen. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple going out, as well.

“I’d think that Kevin Thelwell would want to impress the Friedkins by doing some good business.

“We’ll wait and see, but I do expect the squad to be freshened up. I’m hearing that we’re looking at a right-back and a winger.”
