Everton’s new formula for Jack Grealish transfer revealed

Everton are hoping to sign Jack Grealish on another loan deal ahead of next season despite the possibility of reaching a permanent agreement.

The ultimate cost of the move including paying a fee alongside the 30-year-old’s wages is considered steep for the Toffees to afford this summer.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Man City would be open to letting Grealish leave on another short-term deal.

This is despite the England international’s contract being set to expire in 2027, when he would likely be allowed to leave the Etihad for free after his loan away.

A short-term deal remains Everton‘s preference, despite all parties being open to both options, and they are set to hold talks with City to that end.

Everton hope to land Jack Grealish loan deal

Grealish has enjoyed a successful loan spell under David Moyes but has confirmed he will be ruled out until the end of the season with a foot stress fracture.

The England international has made 22 appearances for the Toffees, provided six assists and scored two goals, quickly become a fan favourite.

There is a £50million option to buy in his current loan move, but neither side are expecting Everton to trigger that clause, leaving his situation open to negotiations.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Yeah, I think you probably have to say that Everton are in pole position to sign Grealish if he does end up leaving Man City.

“Obviously, Everton do have that 50 million purchase option in the current loan agreement for Grealish right now, but Everton don’t really want to pay that.

“The positive news for Everton here is that Grealish is very much open for a return to Everton.

“He has really enjoyed working under David Moyes and obviously Moyes has been delighted to have Jack Grealish available to him as well.

“He’s obviously got no long-term future at Manchester City, I think that’s pretty certain. City will be open to all options to see Grealish move on whether that’s on a permanent or a loan.

“If he was going on a permanent, it’s still quite an expensive deal because of the wages that are involved and obviously the transfer fee as well, so Everton ideally would be interested in a loan deal again if they can get it.

“I think there’ll be talks to be held between Everton and City probably to see if a deal can be agreed.”

Could Everton sign Grealish permanently?

Despite a loan deal being the preference for Everton as things stand, City would likely prefer a permanent sale given his contract situation.

This is something Moyes’s side would also be open to, but they will not pay the £50million release clause, with negotiations ongoing over a potential new fee.

Football Insider revealed on 13 February that Everton could sign Grealish for £20million, a discounted price from the original agreement with City.

Talks will be held towards the end of the current season, with plans accelerated as a result of his injury which has effectively cut short his spell on Merseyside.

Football Insider revealed last month that Everton are determined to sign Grealish despite his recent injury blow despite the potenital complications.
