Every Man United game that Bruno Fernandes is expected to miss after new injury update

Bruno Fernandes is set for an extended spell out of action after he sustained a soft-tissue injury in Sunday’s game against Aston Villa.

Manchester United lost 2-1 to Villa, with Morgan Rogers‘ stunning brace stealing both the points and the headlines.

The Villans have now won 10 consecutive games across all competitions, whereas Ruben Amorim‘s side have won just two of their last eight.

Matheus Cunha impressed against Villa, and scored an equaliser in the first half. Another superb chance to level would fall to him in the second half, but he could only head wide.

On the other hand, Manuel Ugarte struggled against Villa’s physicality and demonstrated why Manchester United have been frequently linked with midfielders in recent months.

Bruno Fernandes set for extended absence

Incredibly, Fernandes has missed just three games through injury since arriving at Manchester United in 2020.

The midfielder’s fitness is impeccable, and luckily, given the Red Devils’ reliance on him.

But Amorim will now be forced to navigate a period without his captain, after Fernandes suffered an injury against Villa.

After a heavy tackle from Amadou Onana, the Portugal international picked up the ball and went to progress forward, before stopping and feeling the back of his leg.

He appeared to be indicating a hamstring injury, but played on for the final minutes of the half before he was substituted.

Amorim explained after the final whistle that the 31-year-old has suffered a soft-tissue injury, with the Telegraph reporting on Sunday that he is set to face at least a month on the injury table.

What games will Fernandes miss?

Manchester United will certainly be without their captain for Friday’s clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford, and the visit of Wolves on the Tuesday following.

A difficult trip to play Leeds United at Elland Road will then follow before the Red Devils play Burnley, and Brighton in the FA Cup.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will take a risk on Fernandes. Given the midfielder’s importance, it could be season-destroying to see him suffer a further set-back.

But if Amorim is willing to take that risk, he will undoubtedly target matches against Manchester City and Arsenal in January.

The trip to take on the Gunners currently looks the likelier of the two matches for Fernandes to make his return in, although even that game could come too soon.
