Every word Martin Odegaard said as Arsenal suffer new injury scare
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has confirmed that he suffered an injury in Thursday’s draw with Brentford.
The Gunners were pegged back to draw 1-1 with the Bees, in what was a blow to their Premier League title hopes.
Mikel Arteta‘s side remain in command at the top of the table, but the gap has now been narrowed by Man City to just four points.
Speaking to Arsenal’s matchday programme before Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Wigan Athletic, Odegaard confirmed that he had picked up a knock in attempting to prevent Keane Lewis-Potter’s equaliser.
The Brentford winger got the goal from a long throw-in, just 10 minutes after Noni Madueke had put the Gunners ahead.
Martin Odegaard provides injury update
The very last thing Arsenal will want is for Odegaard to spend yet another period of time out injured this season.
The midfielder already missed over a month of action with a knee injury near the start of the season, and had two separate issues with his shoulder.
Recently, too, the Norwegian has struggled with a muscle problem, with the issue ruling him out of last week’s win over Sunderland and the Carabao Cup semi-final success against Chelsea.

Several injuries hit Odegaard last season, too, and the 27-year-old is yet to return to the extraordinary level he showed in the 22-23 and 23-24 seasons.
There have been signs of the midfielder’s best form returning this season, but injuries seem to have constantly knocked him back down.
Odegaard’s latest blow saw him spend some time getting treatment before he returned to action on Thursday.
Speaking to Arsenal on Sunday, he said: “I picked up a bit of an injury when they scored their goal, but hopefully it’s not too bad.
“We’ll see how it goes in the build-up to today’s game and over the next few days. I tried to clear the ball as it came down, but instead kicked into the player a bit, and ended up over-stretching my leg, which pinched the knee.
“I was able to carry on, but on Friday morning it was very sore, so I was worried of course, but thankfully it looks like it’s not too bad.”
Injuries continue to plague Arsenal
It has been a difficult few weeks for Arsenal’s midfield, which has suffered several injury blows.
The Gunners even considered looking to the transfer window when Mikel Merino’s foot injury was confirmed to be set to rule him out for much of the rest of the season.
They did not, but they may have wished they did when Kai Havertz suffered an injury just days later that will likely keep him out until the end of the month.
Odegaard’s knock is just the latest problem facing Arteta, with the Spaniard hoping to see the likes of Eberechi Eze step up to see Arsenal through a difficult period.
