Alan Hutton is convinced Borna Barisic will push through his injury and play for Rangers against Celtic on Saturday.
The former Rangers defender and boyhood fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the left-back will be “desperate” to feature in the first Old Firm of the season.
The 27-year-old, who picked up a knock against Ross County, travelled with Croatia on international duty but was left out of the squads to face both Switzerland and Sweden.
Croatia still have to play France on Wednesday before the players return to their respective clubs.
Hutton admits it is a concern to see the Rangers star sitting out games but suggests he will make himself available for Steven Gerrard ahead of the trip to Celtic Park.
“You just wonder if he does have a niggle that he’s missed these games with a view to such a big game at the weekend,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“I just think, if he’s missed these games, it’s with a view to the weekend and in my opinion and the way I’ve been in previous years playing for Rangers, even if you have a little niggle, you’ll play.
“The adrenaline will start flowing, you’ll be up for it and you’ll do your best to play that game. It’s such a big game at a big moment in the season that I’m sure everyone will be desperate to be a part of it.”
Barisic has missed just one game across all competitions for Rangers this season.
He has scored once and chipped in with a further six assists for Gerrard’s men.
