Former Celtic striker Craig Beattie has revealed what has impressed him about the Hoops’ new record-breaking signing Odsonne Edouard.
Following a year on-loan from PSG, Edouard was recently signed on a four-year deal which saw the Hoops smash their previous transfer record.
Beattie believes that the player showed enough last season that the decision to sign the 20-year-old isn’t a gamble.
“I really like Odsonne’s temperament. He looks calm and composed, nothing seeming to faze him” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“He has everything Brendan looks for in a striker.
“He has always looked like he has enjoyed his football, which is a major thing for players.”
Despite being the Hoops’ record signing, Beattie has indicated that Edouard will find himself out of the Hoops team if he doesn’t keep up the form which saw him net 11 goals last season.
“But if Odsonne, or any of the squad for that matter, rest on their laurels they will find themselves out of the team.
“Brendan has shown before he is more than prepared to drop big-name players if they are off form.”
Football Insider verdict
The move for Odsonne Edouard will always been seen as a gamble because of the fact that he is the Hoops’ record signing. Even though Craig Beattie is correct that he has played for the Bhoys before, he didn’t have such a massive price tag hanging over his head then. So far in his brief time with the Hoops he has managed to deal with every challenge he has faced with aplomb, so fans will be hoping for more of the same next season. Beattie’s remarks about players being dropped from the first-team are far more interesting, as Brendan Rodgers isn’t afraid to keep big name players out of his side – he did this with Moussa Dembele last season. You would have to imagine that he would have no qualms about doing similar for Edouard. Even though he did well last season, all eyes will be on Edouard at the star of next season, and he will want to get off to a good start for the Hoops.
