'Everything Seems In Place' - Exclusive: Rangers backed to seal 'No 10' Jan signing by Hutton

Alan Hutton has tipped Rangers to strike a deal to sign Scott Wright from Aberdeen this month after Steven Gerrard mooted a potential transfer swap.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and lifelong fan of the club believes the Dons forward will be a welcome addition at Ibrox and he claimed he would be used as a wide “number 10” like Ryan Kent.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Gerrard confirmed Rangers were close to signing the 23-year-old on a pre-contract agreement, although he revealed there was the possibility of a deal being struck to get Wright to Ibrox this month.

The Dons already have Ross McCrorie on a loan-to-buy deal at Pittodrie, while the Gers boss also discussed the possibility of a swap deal involving another player at Ibrox.

Hutton believes there is enough in place for Rangers and Aberdeen to come to an agreement and that Gerrard would be delighted to add to his squad.

Asked if he thought Wright would become a Rangers player before the end of the month, Hutton told Football Insider: “You would have thought so, everything seems in place to do that, whether it be off the back of the McCrorie thing.

“Obviously Rangers seem really interested in him and again, he’s a very good player, technically gifted and and he suits that style and the formation that they want to play.

“I go back to the three up front but it’s actually like a main striker and two numbers 10s that like to get on the ball and create, see a pass, make things happen and if he fits that bill.

“Gerrard likes options. I think, obviously, Kent has been his main go-to for a couple of seasons now so maybe he’s looking to mix things up, even more competition for those kind of wider areas and I think he can add to that.”

Wright has scored nine goals and chipped in with eight assists in 68 Premiership appearances to date, while he has a total of 76 games under his belt for Aberdeen.

In other news, Football Insider can reveal Rangers have presented a “significant” offer to an England-based star.
