Ex-Bolton midfielder is favourite to be next Burnley manager amid Scott Parker sack development
Gary O’Neil leads the way as the bookmakers’ favourite to be the next Burnley manager amid uncertainty around Scott Parker’s position in charge.
Parker led Burnley back to the Premier League last season as they broke all kinds of defensive records in the Championship.
His side have struggled to adapt to the top-flight in this campaign, however, with just 12 points from their 18 games so far to sit in 19th as it stands.
Football Insider’s sources previously revealed that the Burnley board did not want to sack Parker, but a recent run of nine games without a win has left him in real danger of being dismissed.
The Clarets’ chiefs could soon be on the lookout for a new manager to take over at Turf Moor, and O’Neil may be the one to take charge next after new developments.

Gary O’Neil is the favourite to become the next Burnley boss
Former Bolton and West Ham midfielder O’Neil has been out of work since he lost his job as Wolves boss in December last year, with the club 19th in the Premier League.
O’Neil snubbed the chance to return to Wolves after his replacement, Vitor Pereira, was sacked in November, but he may soon be back in charge of a top-flight club regardless.
The latest odds from one of the leading bookmakers have him as the 7/2 favourite to be the next Clarets manager, out in front of former Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick in second at 5/1.

Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior is next at 7/1, while Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and former West Brom boss Carlos Corberan make up the top five in the running at 8/1 and 10/1 odds respectively.
Which other Premier League job has O’Neil been linked to?
O’Neil also had the chance to become Norwich’s new boss last month, but talks with his former club came to nothing as Philippe Clement was instead handed the reins at Carrow Road.
He is sure to want to return to management soon for his third full-time role after spells at Bournemouth and Wolves, with links to the Leeds United job also arising over the last month.

Football Insider revealed on 2 December that Leeds were exploring a deal to hire O’Neil as Daniel Farke edged closer to the sack.
A return to management at Turf Moor now looks much more likely than at Elland Road, however, with Farke overseeing a strong run of recent form that has seen the Whites go five games unbeaten to move away from the bottom three.
