Ex-Fifa official: Everton may be set for suspended Goodison Park ban after confirmed news
Everton may be set for a suspended stadium ban and must increase security at Goodison Park, according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee delivered his verdict after Everton were hit with an FA charge.
The FA confirmed last week (11 July) that the club have been charged with failing to control their fans during their 3-2 win over Crystal Palace towards the end of the 2021-22 season (19 May).
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the winner in the 85th minute to secure his side’s Premier League status prompting a pitch invasion at Goodison Park.
The game was also notable as Cyrstal Palace manager Patrick Vieria was confronted by an Everton fan who was goading him while on the pitch.
The Toffees have until Monday (18 July) to respond before any punishment is decided.
Asked what the punishment may look like, Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think it’s an interesting one.
“There will be great reluctance for a stadium ban.
“I think what they will do is fine them and then may put on a suspended punishment of a potential stadium ban if it happens again.
“If that was in Europe, they would get an immediate stadium ban.
“The danger of all these things is, you put in a suspended ban as punishment and you announce it and that fires up the away team supporters to climb up and go onto the pitch.
“It’s quite a dilemma for clubs For me, what they’ve got to do is increase security.”
