Ex-Fifa official: Everton may face FA charge as two ‘lengthy bans’ on the cards
Everton may be charged by the FA after fan trouble during their 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Saturday (3 September), according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee claimed crowd trouble at Goodison Park may also come into the FA’s thinking.
The governing body confirmed over the summer (11 July) that Everton had been hit with a charge after a pitch invasion following their crucial victory over Crystal Palace towards the end of last season.
The Toffees had a week to respond but the outcome of the charge is yet to be published.
Against Liverpool Conor Coady’s goal was ruled out for offside, a fan ran on the pitch to confront referee Anthony Taylor and a bottle was thrown behind Jurgen Klopp in the technical area.
BBC Sport reported after the game that the club have identified both fans are set to hand out “lengthy bans”.
“It’s a trend that I don’t want to see in the game,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“In fairness, Merseyside derby matches, like all derbies raise the temperature within the stadium.
“But frankly, the difficulty is how do you stop it? They’ve come out quickly, are going to take action. How can they prevent it? It’s almost impossible to prevent.
“No doubt they put in extra security, they are a very responsible club.

“Repercussions from the FA is a possibility, it depends on the referee’s report.
“They have got one pending as well and that might come into play.”
In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Everton are likely in “talks” to strike multiple deals as new funds are secured.
