Ex-Fifa official: Newcastle United fans should be ‘shouting’ as BBC’s Kieran Trippier footage emerges
The referee was right not to award Newcastle United a penalty in their 5-1 win over Brentford on Saturday (8 October), according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee admitted he would be “shouting for a penalty” if he was a Newcastle fan as the ball struck Rico Henry’s arm.
As shown on the BBC’s Match of the Day programme, Kieran Trippier fired in a cross that hit Henry’s arm that was directly in front of his body.

Newcastle’s appeals were waved away and they were instead awarded a corner that Bruno Guimaraes scored from to open the scoring.
“On this one, I don’t think the player has made his body shape [bigger],” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“I think he’s actually trying to get his arm out of the way. That’s how tough a call it is.
“His arm is close to his body and yes it hit the elbow but it gives him the let out and it’s not a penalty kick.
“For me, I go with the officials and I think they got that one right.
“If I was a Newcastle supporter I’d be shouting for a penalty kick.”

The win for Newcastle lifted them to sixth in the Premier League table as they extended their unbeaten run to four games.
They are next in action on Sunday (16 October) when they travel to Old Trafford to face Man United.
In other news, Kieran Maguire has revealed that Newcastle United spending is to soar past £700million and it “will attract real publicity”.
