Ex-Fifa referee hails 'best decision in months' as 'terrific' Ramsey footage emerges from Aston Villa
Keith Hackett has heaped praise of the “terrific” advantage played by David Coote in the build-up to Jacob Ramsey’s goal as Aston Villa beat Norwich City on Tuesday (14 December).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee claimed the decision has gone unnoticed but it is a sign Coote is full of confidence.
Ramsey played a pass into Ollie Watkins who laid the ball back before he was fouled.
Ramsey then continued with the ball before entering the box and smashing the ball past Tim Krul with his weak foot.
“That advantage was terrific,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Invariably when a referee does something like that it doesn’t get noticed. It’s generally only the referees that notice.

“I think this particular referee is growing in confidence. When a referee gains that second wind of confidence then he’s at liberty then to relax a bit more and read the game better.
“As a result of that it’s the best decision he’s made in several months now. This was top drawer, low-key but very effective.
“It’s a sign of his confidence. Establishing yourself in the Premier League is not easy. He’s struggled at times and not given the performances we saw in the Championship.
“If his confidence is growing, he relaxes more and takes a chance. That chance can be applying advantage or not getting involved in a challenge by showing a yellow card. You can just say ‘It’s a foul, get on with the game’.”
