Ex-manager: I 'can't believe' what I've seen from these 'stunning' Leeds players

Alex McLeish has admitted he has been left gobsmacked by the energy levels at Leeds United in the final weeks of the season.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Whites had buried any fears of burnout.

Leeds beat Southampton 2-0 on Tuesday to move into eighth in the table and guarantee a top-ten finish

Goals from Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts wrapped up victory on the south coast.

No club has picked up more points than Leeds (21) in their last 10 Premier League games.

McLeish admitted there were questions over the Whites’ inconsistent form earlier this term.

However, he revealed he had been blown away by Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

Asked what he made of Leeds guaranteeing a top-ten finish McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “It’s a stunning finish by these Leeds players. A great result again, they looked full of energy at this particular part of the season.

“Leeds have been fantastic the whole season. I can’t believe it, where they’ve found this energy. We thought there was a bit of inconsistency. It was one win, one defeat one win, one defeat, but the wins were significant because it gives them three points.

“The danger is that you draw too many. Leeds have either been on the end of four goals or pumping somebody by three or four. They’ve been a breath of fresh air to the pandemic year that we’ve had.”

Leeds have lost just once, to Brighton, in their last 10 league fixtures.

The Whites wrap up the season with a home tie against an already-relegated West Brom side.
