Ex-manager makes £100m West Brom claim amid Wagner twist
Alex McLeish has backed David Wagner to “resurrect” himself as West Brom manager with a ‘£100m’ promotion pursuit.
The former Scotland and Premier League boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 49-year-old’s experience of the Championship would have the Baggies competing for promotion next season.
As revealed by Football Insider on Wednesday morning (9th June), Wagner has agreed to take charge of West Brom and an announcement is imminent.

It is understood the German manager has agreed terms of a three-year deal at the Hawthorns.
West Brom have turned to Wagner after pulling the plug on plans to appoint Chris Wilder.
McLeish insisted the Baggies job is a “good opportunity” for the former Huddersfield boss.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “David’s got experience in that division. He got Huddersfield out of the Championship so he knows what the league is all about.
“I certainly do as well, having spent a year there as well with Birmingham. It’s a league where you can do all bets with the bookies but you can’t tip a victory, no matter if it’s top versus bottom.
“Wagner will know that. West Brom is a good club, big club, and he’s got a chance to resurrect his achievements in England. I know that he struggled a wee bit in the second part when Huddersfield were relegated again.
“There’s a wee chance to come back to the cash-rich league in England, the Premier League and the Championship.
“You know the prize money stakes when the teams win that league. It’s like £100million to get to the Premier League so it’s a good opportunity if he gets that job.”

Wagner helped Huddersfield seal promotion to the Premier League back in 2017.
He has been out of work since being sacked by Schalke in 2020.
In other news, West Brom player could sign for Leeds in part exchange for £15million star.
