Ex-manager: Maloney could bring 'X-factor' signings to Celtic after what 'I've heard'
Shaun Maloney could help Celtic make some ‘X-factor’ signings if appointed into a senior position, according to Alex McLeish.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland boss insisted the 38-year-old could take on any number of positions at Parkhead.
The Daily Record (31 May) claim Maloney has held talks with outgoing chief executive Peter Lawwell over a key senior role.
However, it is said the Hoops are in no rush as they focus on appointing Ange Postecoglou as manager.
McLeish admitted he had been hugely impressed listening to Maloney speak in his role as a pundit.
He suggested the former Bhoy could improve Celtic’s fortunes in the transfer market.

“I’ve heard talk of Shaun Maloney being bandied about,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Every time I see him on television, he speaks complete sense. He’s had a great grounding working with Roberto Martinez as well.
“He knows Celtic inside out. Whether that’s his wish, I’m not sure, but it seems a good idea.
“Maybe they see Shaun as working in the administration more. Working to try and get the X-factor for recruitment. Possibly working under the chief exec or sporting director, whoever’s the top man.
“He’s an intelligent guy and you wouldn’t rule out any of those roles for him.”
Maloney joined Celtic as a trainee in 1999 and left for Aston Villa in 2007.
However, he returned to Parkhead a year later and stayed until 2001.
After hanging up his boots in 2017, Maloney joined Celtic’s under-20s as a coach.
He left Glasgow to join Belgium in 2018 and is now Roberto Martinez’s assistant.
