Ex-manager salutes GSB as Areola tells pals he has 'heart set' on joining West Ham
Alex McLeish has heralded the West Ham board as they work on a deal to sign PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, raved over the Hammers’ recent recruitment and insisted the 28-year-old would be another good addition.
As revealed by Football Insider on Friday (July 16th), Areola has told friends he has his heart set on joining the Irons.
West Ham have tabled a loan-to-buy offer for the France international and are trying to strike a deal with PSG.
It is understood the French giants value the three-cap keeper at around £15million.
McLeish admitted he was seriously impressed by the Hammers’ recruitment following the standout displays of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal.

He suggested Areola would be another top-class addition to the squad.
“Another sign of good recruitment,” McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“It’s what they did last year with the Czech Republic guys coming in. They had a really, really good season. The Czech’s showed up pretty well in the Euros as a new, emerging country.
“So good recruitment and there’s no doubt that Areola’s another one. It shows that West Ham are busy, they’re not standing still.
“Top work by David Sullivan, David Gold, Karren Brady and, of course, the manager Moysey.”
Areola spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Fulham and won the Cottagers’ player of the season award.
He kept nine clean sheets in 36 Premier League appearances.
