Ex-manager suggests Postecoglou copying Liverpool after what he’s seen at Celtic

Alex McLeish has suggested Ange Postecoglou is looking to implement a “Liverpool-style” attack at Celtic this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers boss admitted he had been impressed with what he has seen from the Bhoys so far.

The Hoops have relied heavily on new signings Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada in attack this season.

The duo often started out wide to allow Odsonne Edouard to lead the line.

However, the Japan international has also operated through the middle and has been in prolific form.

With Edouard joining Crystal Palace, Celtic have also added Georgios Giakoumakis from VVV Venlo to their attacking ranks.

McLeish heralded the versatility of the Celtic attackers this season.

He compared it to Liverpool’s front line of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino or Diogo Jota.

“It almost seems like he’s trying to create, possibly a Liverpool-type front three,” McLeish told Football Insider.

“One where the front three are going everywhere and anywhere but sticking to their defensive duties.

“Obviously not being brilliant defenders but playing in the correct positions that can allow teammates to recover the ball.

“The Liverpool players do that with ease at times.

“Believe me, that is a hard task, asking forwards to do the tracking back and defending.”

Celtic have only failed to score in one of their 11 games across all competitions – the 1-0 defeat to Rangers.

Furuhashi, 26, has scored seven times in nine appearances for the Bhoys so far.

Meanwhile, Abada, 19, has managed to contribute four goals and three assists since joining the club.
