Ex-manager: Tottenham ‘definitely’ in ‘crisis’ after what I’ve seen from Kane

Alex McLeish has claimed Tottenham are “definitely” suffering a “confidence crisis” after what he has seen from the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager insisted things have “not really changed” from last season.

Having beaten Newcastle 3-2, Spurs lost 1-0 to both Vitesse Arnhem and West Ham last week.

They returned to winning ways on Wednesday with a 1-0 League Cup win away at Burnley.

Nuno named a strong starting XI at Turf Moor, with the likes of Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg included.

McLeish insisted Spurs have looked bereft of creativity and attacking impetus at times this term.

He suggested a lack of confidence among the squad was to blame.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think there’s definitely a confidence crisis there.

“Nuno went into Wolves with fantastic support behind him in terms of being able to change the whole setup. They were bringing in some really good, technical players.

“That’s not happened for him at Tottenham. That’s what I think would hold Spurs back a wee bit. It’s not really changed from last season.

“You’ve still got the magnificent duo up front but they need constant supply. You can see signs of them trying to find their own supply. That means them not being in the dangerous areas of pitch.

“That’s tough for Spurs fans at the moment and it’s really tough on the manager.”

Tottenham

Tottenham have scored the joint-fifth fewest goals in the Premier League this season with nine.

Kane has netted just once in the top flight so far, while Heung-min Son has scored four goals.
