Ex-Newcastle ace Issac Hayden reacts as Aberdeen announce transfer

Aberdeen have confirmed the signing of Liam Morrison, who has joined the Dons on loan from QPR until the end of the season.

While Aberdeen are yet to appoint a replacement for Jimmy Thelin, who was sacked at the start of January, they have remained active in the transfer market.

Last week, the Dons confirmed that Lyall Cameron had moved to Pittodrie Stadium, with the midfielder coming to the club on loan from Rangers.

Now, Morrison has become their second signing of the winter window to date, with plenty of players reacting to the news, including former Newcastle star Isaac Hayden.

Aberdeen were linked with Morrison earlier this week, and on Tuesday, the signing was confirmed.

The 22-year-old centre-back originally came through Bayern Munich’s academy before he moved to QPR in 2024.

Since then, the defender has been a regular for the London side and has made 33 appearances over the course of one and a half seasons.

Therefore, there is a hope at Pittodrie Stadium that Morrison can help clog the Dons’ leaky backline this campaign, which has already conceded 28 goals in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Upon announcing the transfer via their Instagram on 20 January, many players were quick to react, including his QPR teammate Hayden.

The midfielder simply responded to the post with a like.

How good is Morrison?

Based on his stats on Fotmob on 22 January, Morrison is a very capable defender in terms of playing out from the back.

Per match, he is averaging an 87.4 per cent passing completion as well as 0.26 chances created and 0.09 assists.

However, when it comes down to actual defending, the 22-year-old has some poor statistics.

Upon leaving the Championship, he was averaging 0.69 tackles, 52.5 per cent duels won, 1.56 interceptions and 2.51 recoveries.

Therefore, it remains to be seen if Morrison can successfully adapt to the Scottish Premiership over the next few months and prove to be a good signing for the Dons.

With Aberdeen still outside of the top six, the Dons will be hoping that the defender can hit the ground running to pull the side back into the top half and into European contention before the split.
