Ex-Premier League referee expects 'lifetime ban' after 'shocking' Liverpool development
The Liverpool fan who allegedly spat at the Man City coaching staff can expect a “lifetime ban” if the allegations are proven correct.
That is the view of ex-FIFA and Premier League referee Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “shocking” incident at Anfield.
The Telegraph reported today (October 4) Man City have submitted an official complaint that a Liverpool fan had spat at a member of the Man City backroom staff.
It is reported that Liverpool have insisted they will investigate the matter.
The number of CCTV cameras in the Main Stand at Anfield means the matter is expected to be resolved quickly.
“That is unacceptable,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I refereed at Anfield on many, many occasions and the fans were knowledgable and very well behaved.
“As a club, they will be shocked if that has happened. There is that many cameras in the ground now, not just broadcast cameras but there are security cameras.
“The person was stupid. From my point of view, goodnight Vienna, you’ve got a lifetime ban.
“What we’ve got to think about is the health and safety of the players and staff. This is an offensive action. In the game of football, it is regarded as one of the worst types of action a player or spectator can take.”
As quoted by the Telegraph, Pep Guardiola admitted he did not see the incident.
He said: “Liverpool is greater than this person. Liverpool in its history helps to make sport better. There are always people that will do that.”
