Ex-Rangers manager can't wait to see Rothwell at Ibrox after January deal update
Alex McLeish has insisted Blackburn midfielder Joe Rothwell could be “another good signing” for Rangers amid transfer links.
The former Rangers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old had come onto the Gers’ radar because of his consistency at Blackburn.
As reported by the Sun (October 2nd), Rangers lead the race to sign Rothwell, with Blackburn willing to sell in January.
The Manchester United academy product is into the final year of his deal at Ewood Park.
This means Rangers can approach him with a pre-contract agreement.
However, the newspaper’s report suggests that Blackburn will be looking to receive a fee for Rothwell

This could open the door for a cut-price Ibrox move in January.
McLeish insisted the midfielder could become another success story for Rangers’ recruitment team, but the “proof in the pudding” would come with his first appearances in front of the Rangers faithful.
“Joe Rothwell came on the scene a couple of years ago and was almost an unknown quantity,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“He figured really well in his early days, and I remember people thinking he was going to go to a higher level very quickly after.
“I guess he’s now on the radar because of his consistency, and Rangers have picked up some really good signings and Rothwell could be another one.
“It’s been the same with others who came to Rangers. You get some people doubting it and some others saying it’s a great signing.
“I can’t say if he is going to come and be outstanding. The proof in the pudding is getting on that pitch at Ibrox in front of those fans.
“Then we can see what kind of level they’re capable of.”
