Ex-refs chief: Liverpool face sanction after new footage emerges of Diego Simeone incident
Liverpool and Atletico Madrid both face action from UEFA, a former PGMOL chief believes, after Diego Simeone’s furious reaction to supporters at Anfield.
Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 to start their Champions League campaign with victory, but the match looked to be heading for a draw.
Marcos Llorente’s double looked to have given Atletico Madrid a shock point from 2-0 down, where Mo Salah made Champions League history, but Virgil van Dijk’s 92nd-minute winner earned the Reds all three points.
Simeone was sent off in the aftermath of van Dijk’s winner, and new footage has emerged of the incident, which will not be good news for Atletico Madrid.

Diego Simeone rages at late Liverpool winner
Simeone had to be kept away from Liverpool supporters from a team of stewards, and Atletico Madrid coaches also got involved.
One coach looked to have thrown a bottle into the crowd, whilst another appears to spit at a supporter, which could land the club in further trouble with the authorities.
The Liverpool crowd were in jubilation when van Dijk’s header nestled into the back of the net, with Simeone claiming he had been insulted throughout the match by the fans behind the dugout.
Former PGMOL chief gives verdict on Simeone incident
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett expects UEFA to fine both club’s once they have closely examined the evidence of the incident.
“These incidents and appropriate film clips will be examined very carefully to determine the guilt and also examine any future measures that might be taken to avoid this type of incident,” Hackett said.
“I expect both clubs to be involved in the investigation and UEFA usually take a hard line on these matters
Both clubs could face fines.“
Simeone will be back in England in October when his Atletico Madrid side take on Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
