Darren Bent claims that Leeds United are chasing an “out-and-out goalscorer” in the shape of Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England star and Arsenal supporter says that he is excited by the prospect of the 20-year-old at the Emirates Stadium and that he be a more natural centre forward than Kemar Roofe at Leeds.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, the Whites have made a move to sign the Arsenal 20-year-old on loan as they look to beat Bristol City to his capture ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Bent says that Nketiah has shown his goal-scoring prowess in the League Cup, netting twice against Norwich in 2017, as well as in pre-season for the Gunners and that he could be a quality addition if Leeds can provide him with the right service.
“I thought he’s going to be an exciting player in the future for Arsenal,” Bent told Football Insider.
“He’s obviously not as experienced as Roofe and he’s not as good in that quality of knowing the game but I’ll tell you what he is, he’s a goalscorer, an out-and-out goalscorer as well.
“If Leeds supply him with the chances, I think he’ll score goals. I don’t think he’ll worry about the other aspects of the game that Kemar Roofe was so good at – going wide, assisting people, being really clever – he’s an out-and-out goalscorer.
“When all they want to do is score, that makes a massive difference.”
Nketiah spent last season on the fringes of Arsenal’s senior side, featuring regularly on the substitutes’ bench both domestically and in European games.
He managed to play five times in the Premier League, scoring his only goal on the final day of the season against Burnley, as well as picking up four appearances in the cup competitions.
