‘What’s Going Through His Head?’ – Exclusive: Pundit savages ‘Unforgivable’ Spurs man
Serge Aurier’s behaviour in his Tottenham Hotspur side’s 2-0 loss to Leicester City on Sunday was unforgivable, says Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, Whelan said the Ivorian acted like a “bull in a china shop” after his haphazard challenge led to a penalty and the away side’s opening goal.
He clattered into the back of Wesley Fofana, who was facing away from goal and not causing an immediate threat on the Tottenham goal.
Manager Jose Mourinho was surprisingly diplomatic in his assessment of the situation, saying, “I can’t blame players for making a mistake.”
But ex-Leeds United forward Noel Whelan was much less sympathetic.
“I’ve got no idea what he’s thinking about,” he told Football Insider. “It’s basically like a bull in a china shop, charging through there not worrying about anything that’s on the shelves.
“It was an unreal, a stupid challenge, so close to half-time where you need to regroup, it’s been a difficult first half and he just shoves him in the back.
“Not even looking at the ball, he’s got nowhere near getting the ball, I do not know what’s going through his head, I really don’t.
“I’m sure Jose Mourinho’s thinking the same thing. What are you doing? That is not a tackle, you see that on a rugby ground.”
Leicester moved into 2nd place with the win, while Tottenham sunk to 6th.
Spurs were talked about as title contenders just a few weeks ago, but the mood has shifted after no wins in the past three matches.
In other news, Tottenham Hotspur Mourinho is planning on bringing a maligned summer signing back into the fold.
