Exclusive: Andy Robertson exit verdict at Liverpool

Andy Robertson will have to leave Liverpool if his performances continue to fall away, according to Glen Johnson.

The former Anfield right-back told Football Insider exclusively that the 2025/26 campaign will be a “big year” for the Scotland international, who will be turning 32 in March.

Liverpool supporters have been highly critical of Robertson this season, with many telling the veteran to hang up his boots and walk away after a couple of unfortunate, but costly, mistakes.

He still managed to make 31 appearances in the Premier League this term, but with Konstantinos Tsimikas waiting on the bench, Arne Slot has often decided to swap the two at left-back.

Milos Kerkez links throw doubt on Robertson’s future

In addition to the player’s drop in performance, Liverpool are highly interested in talented full-back Milos Kerkez after two eye-catching campaigns at the Vitality Stadium.

Football Insider understands that Robertson’s future is “up in the air” due to links with the Bournemouth star, one who continues to impress several high-profile clubs around Europe.

The 21-year-old would be linking up with his Hungarian counterpart, Dominik Szoboszlai, bringing goals and assists with him, having notched eight contributions in two seasons with the Cherries.

Despite the transfer links and the current first-choice left-back’s age, Johnson is not convinced that this will be Robertson’s final season in Liverpool colours, and could be given one more chance to prove himself.

Liverpool mainstay safe for another season under Arne Slot

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, via Beste Online Casino Nederland, Johnson was asked about Robertson’s future as Arne Slot’s reign begins at Anfield.

Admitting that the Scot’s level of performance has dropped this season, he said: “I’d be surprised if he leaves this summer. I don’t think he will, but next season will be a big year for him because he’s only getting older.

“If his performances continue to tail off, he’ll have to move on, but I think he’s still got a lot to give.”

The full-back has made 340 appearances since joining from Hull City back in 2017, going on to lift two Premier League trophies and the Champions League, all while supplying 66 assists.

Long-time full-back partner Trent Alexander-Arnold is now confirmed as leaving, but it could be a while yet before Robertson follows suit.
