Exclusive: Arsenal PSR update as Mikel Arteta’s transfer spending still absent

Arsenal have made financial losses in the last few years and the club are once again yet to give Mikel Arteta any new signings this summer.

That is according to football finance expert Dan Plumley, who told Football Insider exclusively that despite the losses, the Gunners’ inactivity in the transfer market was not because of financial restrictions.

Arteta’s side finished as runners-up in the Premier League for the third consecutive year, playing much of the season with Mikel Merino as a makeshift striker.

In spite of Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Gabriel Jesus all suffering major injuries throughout the season, the Gunners battled to a Champions League semi-final.

But despite the return of their injured players, Liverpool’s dominance made clear the need for a new striker at the very least in North London.

Arsenal were linked with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Liam Delap at various points throughout the season.

But the ex-Wolves and Ipswich strikers have since joined Man United and Chelsea respectively, whilst the Brentford man is expected to also head to the red side of Manchester.

Arsenal have no PSR concerns despite posting losses

Despite earning a club-record revenue of £616.6million, the Gunners still posted losses of £17.7m for the financial year ending 30 May 2024 [BBC Sport].

However, football finance expert Plumley told Football Insider exclusively that these losses were not putting the club in danger “PSR-wise” and there were no “warning signs” he could see for Arsenal.

The finance guru instead reasoned that it was simply a decision by the club not to spend yet in the transfer market.

Plumley said: “Yeah, more so the club, from what we can see, they have made losses in the last couple of years, but PSR-wise, there’s no real concerns.

“We’re looking at that through the lens of it’s not a prediction of what they could spend on transfer fees, but it’s more a case of what they could lose and still be compliant.

“That’s where you’re basing it on. But no warning signs that I can see for Arsenal, PSR-wise.”

Leroy Sane the latest Arsenal target to move elsewhere

Mick Brown told Football Insider back in March that Arsenal were keeping tabs on Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.

The former Man City man was available on a free transfer, with his contract expiring this summer.

But Sane has now agreed a deal to join Turkish club Galatasaray instead, opting against a move to North London.

The German international joins a growing list of players that Arsenal have targeted, but failed to agree a deal for this summer.
