Exclusive: Arsenal ready Matheus Cunha swoop

Arsenal are exploring a January move for Wolves star Matheus Cunha, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has caught the eye with his stunning form for the Molineux club so far in the 2024-25 campaign.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Arsenal are pushing to land the attacker in the mid-season window, which shuts on 3 February.

However, it is believed Wolves are reluctant to let the Brazil international go – presenting a major stumbling block for the Gunners to overcome before a deal can be agreed.

Vitor Pereira’s side are embroiled in a relegation fight but have recently climbed out of the drop zone with seven points from three league games since his appointment.

Cunha has notched 10 goals and four assists in 20 games across all competitions for Wolves so far in the 2024-25 campaign.

He has hit 24 Premier League goals in 68 games in the English top flight since joining the Midlands club from Atletico Madrid on an initial loan two years ago.

An obligation to buy clause made the move permanent for a reported fee of £44million in 2023.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (30 December) that Arsenal have decided to explore a move for another forward player after Bukayo Saka’s surgery.

The Gunners will be without talisman Saka, 23, for months after he underwent a procedure following a hamstring injury he picked up earlier in December.

Mikel Arteta’s side currently sit second in the Premier League behind league leaders Liverpool and are well-placed to play Champions League knockout stage football later this season.
