Exclusive: Aston Villa land £44m windfall – official documents filed
Aston Villa have received a £44million injection from their owners in the form of a new share issue, sources have told Football Insider.
A Companies House submission on Thursday (5 September), backdated to 30 August, shows almost 44 million shares have been allotted for £1 each.
It is so far unclear whether the investment comes in the form of new cash or the conversion of debt into equity.
The share issue represents the latest show of support from owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens (NSWE), who have offered their financial support at Villa Park since securing their takeover in 2018.
The duo made a similar investment in December last year after Football Insider revealed they had pumped just short of £55million into the club.
The latest injection arrived on the final day of the summer transfer window, with Unai Emery strengthening his squad with eight new signings.
Aston Villa set for substantial cash windfall from Champions League
Villa have gone from strength to strength since NSWE took a controlling stake in the club after gaining promotion back to the Premier League in their first season in charge.
While the West Midlands giants flirted with the relegation zone in their first couple of years back in the top flight, Emery has now steered them to back-to-back European football qualifications.
Villa will play in the Champions League this season after securing a fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider they will make a minimum of £35million from the revamped competition.

That extra cash will provide the club with a financial boost after they were believed to be close to the profit and sustainability (PSR) limit last season, with top-flight sides only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
Football Insider revealed on 4 July Villa may need to make up to £100million in player-trading profit this season to avoid a potential PSR breach.
