Exclusive: Aston Villa offered Federico Chiesa before Liverpool deal agreed

Federico Chiesa was offered to Aston Villa as well as Liverpool before his Premier League move after being frozen out at Juventus, sources have told Football Insider.

Villa were keen to sign the Italy international, 26, but could not follow through with their interest as they had already reached the PSR threshold.

Keen to any potential points deduction trouble, the Midlands giants had to step aside, which cleared the way for Liverpool to complete a £10million deal.

Chiesa has yet to make his Premier League debut, but he will be ready for selection when club football returns.

The left-winger is under contract at Anfield until 2028, having penned a deal worth “at least £200,000-a-week” with Liverpool.

Aston Villa could have used Federico Chiesa to solve their attacking issues

Aston Villa had been in the market for another attacking option to provide competition and backup for Ollie Watkins but were unable to secure any late-window signings.

Unai Emery had been interested in signing Joao Felix, but the Portugal international opted to return to Stamford Bridge instead.

Chiesa could have solved Emery’s attacking issues due to his attacking qualities and the experience he has in the Champions League.
