Exclusive: Aston Villa star Sil Swinkels agrees Bristol Rovers move

Aston Villa defender Sil Swinkels has agreed a loan move to join Bristol Rovers, sources have told Football Insider.

The 21-year-old is set to join the League One side on loan for the rest of the season as he seeks to earn valuable first-team experience.

Swinkels is part of the matchday squad for Villa’s derby game against Wolves but will make the move to Bristol Rovers after that.

The Dutchman has experience playing against similarly leveled opposition, having had starring roles for Villa’s academy side in their EFL Trophy games over Blackpool and Bradford City.

He has also been included in the squad for six of the Premier League side’s Champions League games, although he never made it off the bench.

Football Insider revealed (January 31) that Unai Emery’s side could be set for a late January transfer window blitz after the sale of Jhon Duran to Al Nassr.

The centre-back is yet to make an appearance for the first team but has featured at academy level, starting all nine of his games across all competitions, and failing to provide a goal contribution in his 765 minutes of action.

Football Insider revealed (January 27) that Villa are looking to sign a new centre-back ahead of the February 3rd deadline, with Juan Foyth and Axel Disasi on their radar.

Villa remain in contention for Champions League qualification come the end of the season despite frustrating draws against Arsenal and West Ham in their previous two fixtures.

Currently sitting in eighth, four points off Man City in fourth with 37, Emery has worked wonders since taking over back in November 2022.
