Exclusive: Aston Villa work on two defender deals after Tyrone Mings update
Aston Villa have defender duo Juan Foyth and Axel Disasi on their radar in the final week of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Villa’s defensive worries were compounded in the 1-1 draw against West Ham on Sunday (26 January), when Tyrone Mings left the field in tears after a knee injury.
Mings has since taken to Instagram to reassure fans his injury is not “serious” – but any absence will be harshly felt following Diego Carlos’ move to Fenerbahce last week.
Foyth, 27, is a target for Villa with Unai Emery previously managing the Argentina international at Villarreal.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Sunday (26 January) that they are exploring a loan move for Chelsea’s 26-year-old defender Axel Disasi.
Both players can feature at centre-back and at right-back and that versatility has been identified as a key attribute by manager Emery and his transfer team.
Aston Villa progress talks over Foyth and Disasi deals
Talks are progressing over both deals with the mid-season transfer window set to slam shut next week (3 February).
Foyth has made just four appearances this term after suffering a serious knee injury last summer.
He made 32 appearances during his time at Tottenham between 2017 and 2021.

Disasi has turned out 17 times across all competitions for Chelsea in the 2024-25 campaign with the bulk of his action coming in the Uefa Conference League.
Aston Villa are eighth in the Premier League table and are hoping for direct progression to the last 16 of the Champions League with a top-eight finish.
