Darren Bent has insisted Tomas Soucek is well-deserving of a new contract at West Ham after dazzling under David Moyes this season.
The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he has been blown away by the Czech Republic international’s “superb” performances in the midfield since initially joining on loan in January.
As reported by Eurosport, the Hammers are working on a new contract for the 25-year-old after his impressive form in east London, although a deal is not said to be imminent.
Soucek only put pen to paper on his current terms over the summer after West Ham triggered a clause to turn his loan move from Sparta Prague permanent.
Bent has admitted he never expected the midfielder to have the impact he has at the London Stadium and that a new contract would be a just reward for his performances.
Bent told Football Insider: “Listen, it surprised me how well Soucek’s done because I never expected him to be this good.
“You think about some of the important goals that he’s scored for that club, he is David Moyes’ Fellaini. It’s as simple as that.
“He gets his head on things, he’s up there, he’s big, he’s powerful and he’s been absolutely superb. He deserves a new contract, I really like what West Ham are doing down there with what they’ve got. “
Soucek has started all but one of his 27 appearances for West Ham since joining, with six goals under his belt.
He has been an ever-present in the Premier League this season and found the back of the net against Fulham, Manchester United and Leeds United.
