Darren Bent has been left blown away by Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich after his remarkable run of consecutive appearances.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aston Villa and Sunderland hitman insists the 29-year-old has very rarely let Marcelo Bielsa and his teammates down.
Klich’s appearances against Huddersfield was his 85th consecutive start for the Whites, a run which stretches back to the opening days of the 2018/19 campaign.
Bent insists that the midfielder has repaid Bielsa’s faith with his performances at Elland Road, singling out his consistency in the centre of the park.
Asked out the Poland international’s record, Bent told Football Insider: “It’s fantastic and he’s actually been very good.
“Yes, he’s missed opportunities and he’s done some stuff but he’s just a player you can trust and sometimes you’d rather have players you can trust than ones who have got ability but you don’t know what you’re going to get.
“If you know what you’re going to get from him on a weekly basis, then you’ve got a player and I think Bielsa’s quite loyal, which I think is why he’s played Bamford so much.
“People have been kicking and screaming to get him out of the team but he’s stuck with him and it must be working because Leeds are top of the table.”
Klich was deemed surplus to requirements by former manager Thomas Christensen, who sent him on loan to FC Utrecht shortly before being sacked at Elland Road.
As such he played just 10 times in his first season at Elland Road, while he has now a total of 99 Leeds appearances under his belt.
