Darren Bent gushed about Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin following his performance in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Sunderland and Tottenham forward agreed that Yedlin’s goal was majestic and praised his overall display against the Cherries.
The 26-year-old grabbed his first goal of the season against Eddie Howe’s side at the weekend after he flew through the air to head the ball home an Allan Saint-Maximin’s shot which was deflected in his direction.
Yedlin wasn’t the only defender to get on the scoresheet on Saturday as centre-back Ciaran Clark grabbed his second goal of the campaign, to contribute to the Magpies’ latest win which saw them move up to 13th in the table.
Bent acknowledged that Yedlin performed well on Saturday but was quick to add that what he really liked about the American as well as his Magpies teammates is that they’re buying into what Steve Bruce is all about.
When asked whether Yedlin’s majestic goal was the icing on the cake for his display, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah of course, he did really really well.
“What I like about Yedlin and the other Newcastle players is that they are buying into what Steve Bruce is all about.
“Yedlin defended really well and got his goal.”
Yedlin has played every minute of the Magpies’ last five Premier League games after previously missing their opening six matches due to a groin strain.
The right-back has been at St James Park since August 2016 after joining from Tottenham and is contracted to stay with the Magpies until 2021.
Yedlin has made 101 appearances for the Magpies and has contributed three goals as well as 10 assists in those outings.
In other Newcastle United news, Danny Mills has tipped a Magpies midfielder for the exit in January.
