Exclusive: Bent worries as Bruce reportedly may do the 'Worst' thing possible for Newcastle star

Darren Bent worried over Newcastle United attacker Joelinton being axed as he believes it will shatter the Brazilian’s confidence.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international admitted he felt for the Magpies striker as everyone was blaming him for the club’s shortcomings.

It was recently reported that Bruce may axe Joelinton as he’s exploring the possibility of leaving the attacker on the bench in the club’s upcoming games.

Bent shared it would be difficult for the 23-year-old to recover from being axed and claimed it was the worst possible thing Bruce could do.

The ex-striker then shielded Joelinton from taking the blame over his lack of goals by pointing out the Magpies don’t create lots of chances.

When asked about Joelinton’s struggles, Bent told Football Insider: “Listen he missed a couple of chances against Rochdale to put the game out of sight, and I feel for him as a fellow striker.

“I do feel for him as I’ve been there when things aren’t going for you and what makes it harder is that Newcastle aren’t a free-flowing team who create a lot of chances, so all he can do is remain patient and keep getting himself in there.

“Everyone is looking at you pointing their fingers, blaming you, thinking you’re not good enough.

“I think the worst thing that can happen is for Bruce to take him out the team and shatter his confidence as if that happens it will be very hard to get him back.”

Joelinton arrived at St James Park in the summer after joining the Magpies from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.

The 23-year-old has so far featured 22 times for the club, but he has only managed to score one goal across his outings.

In other Newcastle United news, it can be REVEALED that Celtic are plotting a move to sign one of their players after Bruce makes up his mind.
